Enhancing Social Media Strategies on UNSCR 1325 in Asia

Young women peace advocates from Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmare, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines and Sri Lanka came together at the Isis International House (Bahay ni Isis) in Manila from 16 to 22 October 2013 to dialogue and strategize on peace building in the region and in their countries.

They strategized on how to promote and use the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, unanimously adopted in October, 2000, as a tool to for women's groups and organisations to work towards political inclusion, address violence against women, build peace and work towards justice, including the role of social media in supporting peace building.

Resolution 1325 requires parties in a conflict to respect women's rights and to support their participation in peace negotiations and in post-conflict reconstuction. Implementing the Women, Peace and Security agenda at the national level has been slow, so in 2004 the Security Council called on Member States to develop of National Action Plans on women, peace and security.

An exciting and inspiring gathering!
